As the 2024-2025 school year comes to a close, rising juniors and seniors are now being invited to apply to Manchester Township High School’s National Honor Society (NHS).

On 20 March, an NHS interest meeting was held in the Manchester Township auditorium. Present at the meeting was Advisor Mrs. Heather Staples, President Luka Costa-Seraphini, Vice President Marisiya Goins, Treasurer Jade Andews, Historian Emily Johnson and several active club members.

A student-run presentation emphasised the four pillars of the National Honors Society: scholarship service, leadership, and character. Candidates and members are to embrace the pillars in their own way, from maintaining a good education to leading examples and more.

To be eligible for consideration, a student must be an upperclassman with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of ninety-three percent or above. These students will receive an invitation, via email, to complete an official application and essay.

Applications are reviewed by an anonymous NHS Faculty Council. It may take several weeks to review all resumes, letters, and essays before deciphering well-suited future members.

Once accepted, NHS members are expected to maintain their involvement in the school and community, keep high academic habits, and attend monthly meetings. Members must also fill ten hours of service and five hours of tutoring per semester, alongside various semester service projects.

Members who do not uphold these responsibilities will be put on probation. Current members emphasized the importance of communication within the club. The members of Manchester Township High School NHS, as well as Advisor Staples, are always willing to help when honesty and humanity is shown. At the end of the day, rules are rules and members are expected to be role models throughout the school and community.

NHS Senior Nathaniel Moore shares, “[NHS is] Welcoming and really fun-all events will be fun no matter what, it’s a really nice environment.”

May and December are notably the busiest months, members say; however, the society tries their best to work around school, community, and sport events to promote a variety of service events. Events  include tutoring (required), fundraisers and charity work (Kevin’s Kids), ice cream socials, assisting in school wide events, and community volunteering. Some events might take place after school or over the weekend.

For those interested in NHS, here are dates to keep in mind:

  • Notification of eligibility: Week of 31 March 2025
  • Application window: 1 April 2025 – 15 April 2025. Applications are due no later than 2:25 p.m.
  • Candidates will be invited to Google Classroom following application.
  • Application Review: 16 April 2025 – 12 May 2025
  • Acceptances Announced: 14 May 2025
  • Induction Ceremony: 22 May 2025

Manchester Township High School’s National Honor Society gets students involved in the community, creates lasting bonds, and reinforces the four pillars to all members and alumni.

Good luck to the applicants of the 2025 season!
