2022 Fashion Recap
January 3, 2023
As 2022 slowly comes to an end, all the fashion and trends will as well. To mark the end of 2022 (and the start of 2023), here’s a summary of 2022 fashion.
The 2022 winter fashion was overall comfy. With oversized outerwear, bonnets, balaclava (a tight-fitting face garment that covers the face and neck, usually showing only a few facial features), pleather or leather, sweater vests, and preppy pleated clothes. A massive trend in the winter season was tonal outfits or monochrome. Red hair, ponytails, strawberry highlights mid-length, and short-length bobs, and the 90’s layer was the popular hairstyle. Some popular colors were purple, teal, red, and hot pink. The top three popular aesthetics were preppy academia(the preppy version of the iconic dark academia), Euphoria themes(bright and shiny), and romantic core(dark academia with hints of romance).
Spring fashion was very bright and fun-loving and carefree. It was primarily based on Y2K fashion, using halter tops, low-rise jeans, and platform shoes. People also used chunky belts to accessorize, along with colorful mix-match jewelry. Some popular hairstyles were low buns, straight hair, middle parts, and simple braids. Some accessorized these looks with bright and fun hair clips, and headscarves. Popular colors were yellow, pink, and blue. The top three aesthetics trending was Soft girl(a cutesy, feminine look ), coconut girl (a very bright and beachy aesthetic), and Academia (a dark, moody style)
Summer fashion was very similar to spring fashion, with its bright, carefree, and beachy looks. What thrived were vests, oversized button-down shirts, geometric shades, tennis dresses, baguettes, low-rise miniskirts, white tank tops, clogs, linen, and ballet flats. Raffia, shell necklaces, friendship bracelets, and colorful beaded necklaces were also popular. Some popular hairstyles were pin-up pony, pop starting, bottleneck bangs, curly bob, micro braids, and mermaid waves. Bright and pastel pink, yellow, light blue, beige, green, fuchsia, and gray were p
popular colors. The top three aesthetics are cottagecore (traditional rural life), Y2K fashion (the early ’90s and 00’s mixed), and Americana (music, folklore, artifacts, scenery, and material that is “American” based).
And finally, the 2022 autumn season. With the minimalistic look power suits, leather jackets, faux fur, boots, vintage or upcycled clothing, sheer tops and pants, oversized blazers, and plaid was in almost everybody’s closets. The butterfly cut, ‘70s layers, shoulder-length, long hair with volume, the contouring, and the Rachel 2.0 were top choices for haircuts. Popular colors are burgundy, dark green, brown, olive, rust, Fuschia, and bright blue. The top three aesthetics are Barbiecore(hyper-feminine, pretty-in-pink aesthetic inspired by Barbie), Y2K (the 2000’s look), and Plazacore
(preppy but with puffed sleeves, miniskirts, and plaid.).
If I had to describe the 2022 fashion in one word, it would be nostalgia. With fashion from the 1990s and 2000s, and the hints of the ’60s-’70s. But what comes around, goes around, and fashion is no exception.
