Support the GSA Valentines Sales!!
February 13, 2023
The GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) is holding a fundraiser from February 9th to February 14th. They are selling an assortment of Valentines goodies, in which everything costs $3 or $5. Some of the gifts you can purchase are necklaces (sold separately and in pairs), “Build Your Own Valentine” (with squishy toys, sticky creatures, and scented ones), and most impressive, handmade keychains. Some keychains include rainbow hearts, choco heart box “le coco” (designed by Melanie Grom), multiple color “Be Mine” hearts, plate of pancakes “no one stacks up to you” (also designed by Melanie Grom), and connecting puzzle hearts (this keychain comes in two different styles, rainbow or sparkly red). GSA President, Noel Steger, commented on the creative process it took to make the keychains, “We have a laser cutter in Mrs. Malebranche’s Room (215). We have wood, we made a pattern on the machine, the laser cuts the design out of the wood. We then put resin on the top to gloss it over to make them look pretty!!” Noel added that the GSA’s initial purpose is to make a more inclusive environment in the school to help raise money for the club since they don’t get much support. The GSA hopes to raise enough money to eventually donate it to The Trevor Project, an organization focused on queer youth that offers supplies, assistance, and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth.
While talking to Noel about the importance of LGBTQ+ equality in the school, Mr. Adams interrupted our interview to participate in the fundraiser. He supported the GSA by doing some last minute Valentines shopping with buying the “You Drive Me Crazy” car and “I’m Stuck On You” frog.
The GSA wants you to remember, you do not need a Valentine to buy them, so stop by the table set up outside of lunches to support the GSA. The GSA is always open to new people to help improve the school environment.
