Boba tea is easier to make than you might have previously thought. So look no further, for the recipe is here!

Also called “bubble tea,” boba is a type of drink that originated in Taiwan. It consists of tapioca pearls paired with tea. There are many different flavors of boba, ranging from flavors of tea, fruit, and taro. The recipe for boba is quite simple. You can make this in as big or as little of a quantity as you need.

Here are the ingredients needed to make boba:

  1. Tapioca pearls- (these can be bought in the baking aisle of some grocery stores, asian supermarkets, or even Amazon.)
  2. Tea- while any type of tea will work, Lisa Lin recommends in her article that the best teas to use are “…Those that have a robust flavor, such as black or jasmine tea. Because you will water down the tea with milk and ice cubes…”
  3. Milk- (can be dairy free.)
  4. Any sweetener of your choice.

Here’s how to make boba tea:

  1. Prepare the tea.
  2. Cook the tapioca pearls in water. Cook them until they float to the top, and afterwards cook them for approximately 5 more minutes.

-Lin also warns that when cooking the tapioca pearls, to “…only cook as many as you need. The pearls stiffen as they cool, so they do not keep well overnight.”

  1. When the tapioca pearls are done, remove them from the water with a slotted spoon.
  2. Assemble the drinks- first put the tapioca in, then pour the tea (with sweetener, ice cubes are optional, and milk.)
  3. Enjoy!

And there you have it! You’ve made yourself boba!
