Benson Boone is a 21 year old singer hailing from Monroe, Washington. He began his career as a singer when he learned he had an extraordinary talent for it during a high school band competition. Boone has even admitted that he never knew he could sing in the first place, but after his friends found out about his huge talent, they convinced him to take his skills further and post clips online.
Boone became a sensation on the streaming and entertainment platform Tik-Tok, when he started to release numerous short videos of him singing as well as captivating his audience. Benson decided to showcase his vocal talents by auditioning on an episode of American Idol Season 19 in early 2021.
After blowing judges away, and even being offered to join the show’s famed Hollywood Week, he sadly exited the production after making it to the top 24. Boone left due to not being sure if he wanted to make music, as the thought of being famous was still a very new and also worrying concept for him.
After some time and reconsideration, Boone officially entered the online music scene after his first official single was released for all to hear in October 2021 titled “Ghost Town,” and it immediately charted in 13 countries. At the time of this song’s release, Boone didn’t have enough of a widespread following in order to gain a massive fanbase. With great devotion to his craft, and also with a constant release schedule, Boone quickly took the internet by storm within the following years. Benson is regarded as an emerging generational talent, with many young listeners growing a taste for his wholesome blend of melancholic singer/songwriter pop music.
After listening to Boone’s latest single, “Beautiful Things” released on January 17, 2024, I see a great potential for his future as an all star singer. The track blew me away with its quiet and somber intro, mixed with the pure as well as emotionally charged shouting vocals within the chorus. His musical style to me is reminiscent of his contemporary musician and peer Harry Styles, and I find this to be a very great comparison in regards to their sheer musical talent.
Boone left an impression on me when it came to his singing style, as I tend to personally favor singers with a high vocal range. You can really feel the emotion within every verse of this song, which to me is a sign of amazing musical capabilities. I would say give this track, and many others by Boone a listen if you’re in the mood for a heartwarming range of somber pop music.
