Juan Soto, arguably the most sought-after free agent this offseason, announced his massive contract, one that is certainly not going to short him of money.
Soto signed a 15-year $765 Million contract with the New York Mets, the cross-town rivals of his previous team, the New York Yankees.
Soto will play for the Mets until 2040, if he doesn’t opt-out, and follows his contract. This 15-year stretch will be crucial for the Mets, as they have yet to win a World Series since 1986.
The Yankees had the coveted Soto for the 2024 season. They made the World Series and failed to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers with stars like Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman.
Soto was a key piece of the Yankees’ outfield, playing alongside Aaron Judge, and Alex Verdugo.
The Yankees ended the 2024 season with a 94-68 record, winning both the American League East, and the American League as a whole.
The question on the minds of many Yankees fans is if the ‘Bronx Bombers’ can make a World Series run again, however without Juan Soto.
Soto was a crucial hitter, hitting .288, 108 RBI, and 41 Home Runs for the Yankees last year.
The Yankees can succeed without Juan Soto, however. They still have players like the aforementioned Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Jazz Chisolm Jr., and Anthony Volpe.
The star-studded lineup lost one of its stars, but it is still going strong. The Yankees have made the playoffs many times in previous years, and I don’t see that streak ending anytime soon.
Soto’s place in the outfield has yet to be filled, but the Yankees have plenty of outfielders to take his place.
I believe that the Yankees are due to continue their success into the 2025 MLB season, even with the departure of Juan Soto.
