The holiday season has ended, and so has the NFL regular season. Football fans have waited 18 long weeks, but the wait ends now. The NFL playoffs are here.
Now, what are the NFL playoffs? The NFL playoffs is how the champion is decided. The NFC and AFC (the two divisions in the NFL) each have their 7 best teams in the playoffs, and they’re seeded (ranked) based on their position and record after Week 18.
The NFC has the Detroit Lions (1), Philadelphia Eagles (2), Los Angeles Rams (3), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4), Minnesota Vikings (5), Washington Commanders (6), and the Green Bay Packers (7) in the playoffs.
The AFC has the Kansas City Chiefs (1), Buffalo Bills (2), Baltimore Ravens (3), Houston Texans (4), Pittsburgh Steelers (5), Los Angeles Chargers (6), and the Denver Broncos (7) in the playoffs. Notable omissions from this list include the Dallas Cowboys, and the San Francisco 49ers. Both teams struggled this season.
The winners of the NFC and AFC are who are in the Super Bowl. Super Bowl LIX is in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Caesar’s Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints, on February 9th, 2025. Kendrick Lamar will perform the world-renowned Super Bowl halftime show.
Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs won their second-straight Super Bowl, prevailing against the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs are the #1 Seed of the AFC, and are poised to return to the Super Bowl for a third consecutive season, something that hasn’t been done since Super Bowl LII, with the New England Patriots winning over the Los Angeles Rams in 2019.
To start the playoffs, the Philadelphia Eagles don’t have QB Jalen Hurts, who is still in concussion protocol. Saquon Barkley, who came 101 yards short of the single-season rushing yard record, was benched to keep him healthy for the playoffs, sacrificing his chance at breaking Eric Dickerson’s 1984 record.
According to foxsports.com, The favorites to appear in Super Bowl LIX are the NFC’s Detroit Lions, and the AFC’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Odds can often help visualize the chances each team has. FOX Sports has the teams ranked as follows:
- Detroit Lions +280
- Kansas City Chiefs +350
- Baltimore Ravens +600
- Buffalo Bills +650
- Philadelphia Eagles +700
- Minnesota Vikings +1600
- Green Bay Packers +2000
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2500
- Los Angeles Chargers +2800
- Washington Commanders +4500
- Los Angeles Rams +4500
- Denver Broncos +5500
- Houston Texans +8000
- Pittsburgh Steelers +9000.
The NFL Playoff Wild Card Round starts on Saturday January 11th, with the 6-seed Los Angeles Chargers traveling to NRG Stadium to face-off against the 4-seed Houston Texans.
Now, The Talon prides itself on only spreading statements that are backed up by facts and statistics. However, in my opinion, which isn’t factual, or statistically true, I predict that Super Bowl LIX will be between the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions. I believe that the Lions will prevail, should that be the matchup.
My prediction can be wrong. The playoffs haven’t started yet, and one game can change my prediction. I encourage you to watch the NFL playoffs, and see how it turns out! That’s the fun of the NFL, you never know what’s going to happen next!
