The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. The game occurred Thursday, September 4th and the final score was 24-20 Philadelphia. The game was played at Lincoln Financial Field and there was a weather delay and early ejection.
During the first six seconds of the game, Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter was ejected from the game for spitting on the Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Carter was suspended from the NFL without pay for week 1, since Carter was ejected before a single play, he was able to play against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 2.
“Thats a mistake that happened on my side. Just won’t happen again,” Jalen stated after the game according to The Athletic.
During the first-quarter Jake Elliott’s opening kick went 60 yards, putting Dallas at their 5-yard line after the return. The Cowboys scored first, Javonte Williams got a touchdown making the score 7-0 after the extra point was good. The Eagles responded with a 4-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Jalen Hurts making the score 7-7.
In the second-quarter, Javonte Williams got another 1-yard touchdown which made it 14-7 for Dallas after driving 88 yards in 9 plays. Jalen Hurts tied the game again after making another touchdown. Then Brandon Aubrey made a 41-yard field goal and Cowboys took the lead 17-14. Shortly after, Saquon Barkley made a touchdown near the end of the half, putting them in the lead 21-17. Right before halftime, the Cowboys kicked a 53-yard field goal with the Eagles still in the lead 21-20.
During the second half of the game Jake Elliott made a 58-yard field goal, pushing the Eagles in the lead 24-20. After a rain delay both teams struggled during the 4th quarter, and Philadelphia took the win 24-20.
