With temperatures on the rise and flowers blooming, spring is coming into full bloom.

The Manchester Township High School (MTHS) Concert and Jazz Band concert will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m.

Featuring the MTHS Concert Band and Jazz Band ensembles, the concert will be independent from the Chorus, as their concert will be the following Tuesday, May 19.

The newly-minted Manchester Township Middle School Jazz Band will take the stage first, performing two pieces, and then the MTHS Jazz Band will join them on stage, performing a joint-song, Old Time Rock and Roll, made famous by Bob Seger.

The MTMS Jazz Band will vacate the stage, and the MTHS Jazz Band will perform three pieces, Five Spot After Dark by Benny Goldson, Ain’t Misbehavin’ by Thomas “Fats” Waller and Oye Como Va by Tito Puente.

To close the concert, the MTHS Concert Band will take center stage, performing four arrangements, Westridge Overture by James Barnes, The Typewriter by Leroy Anderson, A Percy Grainger Suite arranged by Frank Erickson, and music from How To Train Your Dragon, arranged by Sean O’Loughlin.

Notably, The Typewriter will feature two soloists, Meghan Libourel playing a typewriter, and Christopher Faenza on the Tenor Saxophone. Faenza and Libourel are both seniors, performing in their final concert at the Hawks Nest.

As stated in the winter, these concerts are the product of months of hard work and many rehearsals throughout the year.

MTHS Director of Bands Andrew Fodor said the following about concerts in December:

“Our concerts are the culmination of months of hard work, growth, and dedication from the students. Throughout the school year, they are not only learning notes and rhythms, but growing as musicians and individuals. These concerts give students the opportunity to share their talents with their families, friends, and the wider community, which is an essential part of the musical experience. Music is meant to be shared, and these performances celebrate the students’ progress while highlighting the important role music plays in bringing our community together.”

As aforementioned, the MTHS Chorus concert will be held on Tuesday, May 19, in the MTHS Auditorium.

Admission is free for both spring concerts, and both will be held in the MTHS Auditorium. The MTMS Jazz Band takes the stage at 6:30 p.m., and the doors open at 6:00 p.m. Be there for a night of free music, and enjoy spring in full bloom!
