Relay for Life is a fundraiser Manchester Township High School (MTHS) plans to bring back this year. The event raises money for cancer patients to help with research, medicines and other needs.

MTHS will host Relay for Life this year on Friday June 5, at 6 p.m. at 101 S Colonial Dr Manchester, NJ. The event will run until midnight. Further information can be found on the MTHS Relay for Life fundraiser website; this is where you may also sign up to join a team if you wish to participate.

“The possibility of being able to help someone with their fight through cancer and give them that comfort feeling to know they aren’t in this alone whether it’s one person or thousands,” said school leadership member and co-organizer, James Ruocchio.

Ruocchio believes signing up for the cause is important, no matter how much money they raise.

“The fundraised money goes directly to the American Cancer Society or the ACS,” said other student leadership member, and co-organizer, Gabe Calafati, when asked where the fundraised money gets sent.

Knowing where the money is going is crucial to donating, especially when it’s a reliable source.

Relay for Life begins walking around the MTHS track. Throughout the evening, challenges and games are set up for participants to win prizes, making it a competition between teams. Food, drinks and music will be provided.

Registration costs $25. This fee can be paid online when you join a team, or at the event upon arrival.

If you wish to donate without participating, open the website and use the top left box, “donate,” to help raise money.
