Yankees Clinch American League Championship!
October 5, 2022
Let the celebrations begin!
The New York Yankees are the 2022 American League East Champions.
The Yankees have secured their 20th American East championship by winning 5-2 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told the team, “I’m really proud of the guys. It’s the toughest division to win … every team’s a battle,”.
Only 6 days after clinching a spot in the playoffs, Boone secured his second title as manager, after his first in 2019.
The Yankees earned a bye in the first round of the postseason and home field advantage in the second round. While everyone was focusing on Aaron Judge’s race to 62, the Yankees went 17-8 in September.
With one game left, the Yankees will enjoy a break during the Wild Card round, then it is off to the American League Division Series (ALDS). The team that wins the best out of 5 will advance to the American League Championship Series (ALCS), then whoever wins the best of 7 in the ALCS goes on to the World Series.
The last time the Yankees were in the World Series was in 2009 when they won their 27th championship.
It’s 13 years later and the Yankees have a chance for 28, but they have a long road ahead of them.
