With the conclusion of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Max Verstappen solidified his claim as the “Greatest Of All Time” in the Formula One history books with his fourth straight World Drivers Championship, something only done four times before Verstappen accomplished the feat.
Michael Schumacher won five in a row from 2000-2004, Sir Lewis Hamilton did it from 2017-2020, Sebastian Vettel also did it from 2010-2013, and Juan Manuel Fangio did it from 1954-1957.
The same question is on the minds of many fans. Can Verstappen keep the momentum going into the next few seasons? Verstappen’s championships were fought for. 2021 was the most controversial.
It was won on the final lap, due to a late race safety car which bunched up the field, leaving Verstappen right behind his championship rival, the aforementioned Lewis Hamilton.
2022 was a dominant season for Verstappen and his team, as he won 15 out of the 22 Grand Prix held that year, and Red Bull won 21 out of 22 races.
2023 was very similar to the year prior, with continued domination by Verstappen. 2024 was the first season that Verstappen’s form declined. After Race 10 in Spain, McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari all showed performances better than Verstappen and Red Bull.
That allowed McLaren’s Lando Norris to catch Verstappen in points, but with his walk-off win in Las Vegas, Verstappen clinched the championship.
Was Verstappen’s mid-season snafu a sign of what’s to come in the following seasons? If Verstappen keeps his momentum, he will certainly solidify himself as the greatest of all time in F1.
He won the Qatar Grand Prix as well, bringing his monumental win total to 63 wins. This makes Verstappen the third-winningest driver in the history of F1. Michael Shumacher, who retired in 2012, has 91 wins. Sir Lewis Hamilton has 104 wins, but can continue adding wins to the all-time record.
Verstappen is on pace to become one of the best drivers in history, and there is seemingly no way to stop him.
