The new movie, Mufasa: The Lion King, premiered on December 9th and came out in theaters on December 2oth, 2024. While the movie consists of a good plot and great storytelling, its increasing popularity is mostly due to its songs.
The Movie’s music was put together by a crew of talented writers, most notably Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is known for many great works of music that have been popular for years, such as Hamilton.
The two songs that are popping up everywhere on Tiktok are ‘I Always Wanted A Brother’ and ‘Tell me It’s You’. Between the trends, funny little skits, and fan edits, it’s not hard to come by the songs on social media.
‘I Always Wanted A Brother’ is popular for many reasons. Lin-Manuel Miranda has always been known for his musical prowess, which is demonstrated through the song with a strong melody and catchy, impactful lyrics. It explores Mufasa and Taka’s sibling bond, a bond that we didn’t see in any of the other Lion King movies. The song, as well as the rest of the plot, adds a more emotional layer to other scenes with the two lions.
The love song between Mufasa and Sarabi, ‘Tell Me it’s You’, has also been making its way around. In previous movies of the franchise, love songs have always been well-liked. An example would be both versions of ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight.’ Lin-Manuel did not disappoint when it was his turn to compose one.
The duet is beautifully written and the voice actors,Aaron Pierre(Mufasa) and Tiffany Boone( Sarabi), mesh well together. The song is nostalgic, reminiscent of the original ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’, as well as a pivotal moment in the movie where Mufasa and Sarabi establish a foundation for their future as leaders of the pridelands. The music throughout the movie was very well organised and executed, the song even uses reverb that matches the ice cavern setting to add more depth.
Now, these are not the only good songs on the soundtrack. In fact most of the music is loved, good reviews coming in left and right. However, these two are the most prevalent on social media platforms because of the catchy and well-written lyrics, as well as the emotional impact it has in and outside of the movie.
