Have you ever wondered if power ages or if age matters in boxing? Well, 58-year-old Mike Tyson was called out by 27-year-old influencer Jake Paul to box. Many believe that Mike Tyson saw it as an opportunity to pay his bills, others think that Jake Paul saw it as an opportunity to “beat” the most dangerous man in the world. The fight was supposed to be on July 16, 2024. It was supposed to be a “friendly” fight, but things do not always go as planned.
Ever since Jake Paul called out Mike Tyson, he has been getting a lot of feedback. A lot of the feedback was hate because of the age difference and because Tyson is a retired boxer. Despite Mike Tyson’s age, power doesn’t age. So Tyson got into the gym and started training again like how he did back in the 1980’s. Tyson trained for months on end. Around the month of July, Mike Tyson suffered from an ulcer flare-up. The ulcer flare-up made Tyson lose 20 pounds, and the doctors said that he shouldn’t be boxing at his age.
The fight was supposed to be canceled, but it was postponed 3 more months for Mike Tyson to recover from his ulcer flare-up. After his recovery, Tyson got right back into the groove of things and started training, but not as hard as he was before the ulcer flare-up. Shortly after the ulcer flare-up, Mike Tyson injured his knee, which would affect his performance in the fight against Jake Paul. Fast forward to September, a month before the big fight, Jake Paul passed a comment about Mike Tyson’s daughter Exodus, who is diseased. It really struck a nerve in Tyson, so he used it as motivation to win the fight in October.
In October, during one of the face-offs, Jake Paul crawled on stage and accidentally stepped on Mike Tyson’s barefoot with shoes on and Tyson retaliated by smacking him in the face on live television during that same week the fight was set. Viewer were surprised that Mike Tyson truly came out of retirement to fight a young influencer, both sticking to the agreed plan to fight that Friday.
The Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight was at 12 am coming after 2 fights before the main event. The first two fights were really good. The first fight was 12 rounds long, the second fight was 10 rounds, and the main event was 8 rounds long. When everyone heard the announcer announcing the fighters everyone went crazy. Jake Paul came out in a topless car with his brother and friends. Mike Tyson came out with a white towel as a robe and no socks-his iconic look. The fighters met at the center of the ring and touched gloves and went back to their corners.
Mike Tyson started showing no aggressiveness when the bell rang, but Jake Paul came out aggressively and got humbled by Tyson with a power jab. After that Mike’s age was starting to show after he got hit a couple of times. Tyson was also fighting with an injured knee and people believe that it kept locking up on him. After every hit Tyson took. he would bite the thumb of his gloves. Mike Tyson was just dodging and weaving through Jake Paul’s strikes. During the last 10 seconds of round 8 Jake Paul showed his respects to the “Iron” Mike Tyson.
