After two years of domination from the Kansas City Chiefs, the threat of a three-peat has ended. The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl Champions.
The Chiefs looked plain sloppy on the field, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes getting sacked six times by the Eagles defense, which had arguably their best performance of the season on the biggest stage.
Mahomes’ final stat line for Super Bowl LIX: 21/32, 257 YDS, 65.6% 3 TD, 2 INT, and 6 Sacks. Rookie Xavier Worthy had two touchdowns, however his efforts were in vain.
At halftime, the score was 24-0 with Philadelphia in the lead. It took the Chiefs until the fourth quarter to really start playing right, as the first three quarters looked nothing like the Chiefs of this year.
The Eagles had a breakout performance, with their final score being 40-22, and some great plays were made.
On his birthday, Cooper DeJean made history. He was the first player in Super Bowl history to score on their birthday, with a pick-six thrown by Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter, which he returned for 38 yards. The other player celebrating their birthday was Saquon Barkley. While he didn’t have a stellar performance, he still made history. He has the most rushing yards in a single season including the playoffs, with 2,503 yards this season. Giants fans, get mad, and stay mad.
This is the first Super Bowl win since the 2017 season, when second-string QB Nick Foles led the underdog Eagles team to a victory over the Patriots, ending their dynasty. This is the second Super Bowl win in franchise history, and the second in the last eight seasons. The turn-around this Eagles team had since last season has been substantial. Vic Fangio has done wonders for this defense. The Eagles defense was the best in the league in many factors, and it showed on the field.
This was a game of vengeance for Philadelphia, but more so for Jalen Hurts. His phone wallpaper was a picture of him after the Super Bowl LVII loss, with the Kansas City-colored confetti falling around him. The job was finished this time, and the Chiefs have been dethroned.
The infamous Gatorade Shower happened before the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter, with DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown dumping Yellow Lemon-Lime Gatorade on Head Coach Nick Sirianni.
After an eight-year wait, the Vince Lombardi Trophy will be paraded down Broad Street once more, the city of Philadelphia is getting a victory parade.
