The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season is just around the corner, and it is shaping up to be one of the greatest in the history of the series. So, let’s go over who’s racing this year.
#1 – Ross Chastain
Team: Trackhouse
Hometown, Alva, F.L.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Ross Chastain is the true embodiment of the American Dream. Chastain is an eighth-generation watermelon farmer, and he embraces that. His victory celebration is smashing a watermelon on the track! In 2022, he pulled a move that is now illegal in NASCAR, the “Heil Melon”, when he positioned his car against the wall and sped up instead of slowing down for a corner, passing nearly ten cars and advancing to the championship round. Chastain is a fan favorite, and he will continue to smash some watermelons in 2025.
#2 – Austin Cindric
Team: Team Penske
Hometown: Columbus, O.H.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Austin Cindric is a very talented racer. While his wins don’t show it, he is very consistent. He’s the runt of the litter in Team Penske, with three time and defending champion Joey Logano, and 2023 Champion Ryan Blaney as teammates, Cindric may be on the hot seat if he cannot start winning like his teammates do. He won the Daytona 500 in 2022, and his second and last win was at Gateway in 2024, after Blaney ran out of fuel on the last lap. Does Cindric remain at Penske for 2026?
#3 – Austin Dillon
Team: Richard Childress Racing
Hometown: Welcome, N.C.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Being the grandson of team-owner Richard Childress, some fans feel that Austin Dillon doesn’t deserve the ride he has. But there’s no better driver to inherit the legendary Richard Childress #3 car, made famous by the “Man in Black”, the “Intimidator”, seven-time NASCAR Champion Dale Earnhardt. Dillon was there when Earnhardt won his first and only Daytona 500 in 1998. Austin is the 2011 NASCAR Truck Series Champion and the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion. Dillon’s first win came at the 2017 Coca-Cola 600, the first win for the #3 car since Earnhardt’s 76th and final win at Talladega in 2000, three months before he lost his life in a last-lap crash in the 2001 Daytona 500. Dillon’s latest win came at Richmond in 2024, after he wrecked Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the last lap, a move that would remove his playoff eligibility.
#4 – Noah Gragson
Team: Front Row Motorsports
Hometown: Las Vegas, N.V.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Noah Gragson is the last of a dying bunch. Even though he’s from Las Vegas, the image he tries to make himself is that of a country boy, with his firesuit often unzipped and his chest hair showing on pitlane. He’s garnered a loyal following, and even if his performance isn’t great, his PR personality is. He’s been with a different team every year since 2022, so Gragson hopes to find stability through 2025. With Front Row Motorsports, he can indeed win, but it’ll be hard with the level of competition in the Cup Series this year.
#5 – Kyle Larson (2021 Champion)
Team: Hendrick Motorsports
Hometown: Elk Grove, C.A.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: What can’t Kyle Larson do? Larson is a long-time dirt racer who made the switch to NASCAR in the 2010’s, and put the world on notice. He won the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Championship, and his list of accomplishments go on forever. He competed in the 2024 Indianapolis 500 and won Rookie of the Year, he’s won three Chili Bowl Nationals, He’s the 2012 K&N East ROTY, 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series ROTY, and 2014 NASCAR Cup Series ROTY. He’s compared to F1’s Max Verstappen. If it has four wheels and goes fast, Larson can win in it. His first win was at Michigan in 2016, and his latest win was at the Charlotte ROVAL in 2024.
#6 – Brad Keselowski (2012 Champion)
Team: RFK Racing (Owner-Driver)
Hometown: Rochester Hills, M.I.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Brad Keselowski revitalized a type of NASCAR driver that had been dormant for many years. Owner-drivers. He owns 33% of Roush-Fenway-Keselowski Racing, sharing the other shares with founder Jack Roush, and the Fenway Sports Group. Keselowski’s career has been dynamic. His first career win came at Talladega in 2009, driving for underdog team Phoenix Racing in the #09 car. Being the protege of Dale Earnhardt Jr, Keselowski has had success throughout his career. He drove for Penske, winning the 2012 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. He left after 2021 for RFK, and has won once with his team, at Darlington in 2024.
#7 – Justin Haley
Team: Spire Motorsports
Hometown: Winamac, I.N.
Manufacturer: Chevy
Bio: Justin Haley is a true underdog. He doesn’t have many achievements, but his lone win at Daytona in 2019 with Spire helps his case. Haley had success in the NASCAR Xfinity and NASCAR Truck Series, and was seemingly brought up to Cup too early. His win at Daytona came as a rain-shortened win, as he led the final lap that was run under caution, after lightning was in the area. He’s a super-speedway superstar, so look for Justin to compete for wins at tracks like Daytona, Talladega, and Atlanta.
#8 – Kyle Busch (2015, 2019 Champion)
Team: Richard Childress Racing
Hometown: Las Vegas, N.V.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Chances are, you know about Kyle Busch. He’s one of, if not the most famous NASCAR drivers that currently race. He’s a two time champion, winning in 2015 and 2019 with Joe Gibbs Racing. 2025 will be his third season with Richard Childress Racing, and he’s only amounted three wins with the team. 2024 was the first season that Busch hasn’t won a race since 2005, ending a 19-year winning streak. The 39-year old only gets older by the day, and if his results don’t improve, does he retire? That’s the question that’ll be answered after the season ends. Hopefully Busch can return to his former glory and capture victories in 2025.
#9 – Chase Elliott (2020 Champion)
Team: Hendrick Motorsports
Hometown: Dawsonville, G.A.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Son of NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Bill Elliott, Chase Elliott has a loyal fanbase that will follow him wherever he goes. He’s won the Most Popular Driver award every year since 2018, something his father had done until he requested his absence on the ballot in 2001 following the death of Dale Earnhardt. Chase is the 2020 Cup Series champion, and is a championship contender almost every year. His latest win came at Texas in 2024, and his seat at Hendrick Motorsports is under no pressure. Look for Elliott to continue winning in 2025.
#10 – Ty Dillon
Team: Kaulig Racing
Hometown: Welcome, N.C.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: The younger brother of the aforementioned Austin Dillon, Ty Dillon has had a different career than Austin. He’s still had good results, but Austin has won more races and championships than Ty. The 2025 season marks a second chance for Ty. He raced for Germain Racing from 2017-2021 and then was demoted to the NASCAR Truck Series for Rackley W.A.R. until he was signed by Kaulig Racing. Can Ty Dillon earn his keep in the Cup Series?
#11 – Denny Hamlin
Team: Joe Gibbs Racing
Hometown: Chesterfield, V.A.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Denny Hamlin is the elder-statesman of Joe Gibbs Racing. After Martin Truex, Jr.’s exit after the 2024 season, young talent is starting to take over. Denny is a three-time Daytona 500 winner, three-time Southern 500 winner, four-time Clash winner, but he’s never won a Championship. He’s been close numerous times, but misfortune always finds Denny. The 44-year old doesn’t have much time left in the Cup Series, so can he strike gold before his time runs out? His performance hasn’t been bad, so there’s no reason it can’t. Look for Denny Hamlin to do his best in 2025.
#12 – Ryan Blaney (2023 Champion)
Team: Team Penske
Hometown: High Point, N.C.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Ryan Blaney is a fan-favorite driver. Son of renowned NASCAR veteran Dave Blaney, Ryan is no stranger to success. He’s the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, and a well-rounded driver. Most of his wins have come on super-speedway tracks, but he can win anywhere. He’s a championship contender, and he’s loved by the ladies. His campaign motto for Most Popular Driver was: “Vote for me, you know your mother and sister already have”. It was in vain, as Chase Elliott won, again. Overall, Ryan Blaney is a serious contender for the championship. Look for continued success in 2025 from Ryan.
#16 – A.J. Allmendinger
Team: Kaulig Racing
Hometown: Los Gatos, C.A.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: A.J. Allmendinger is a unique talent. He started racing open-wheel cars in the late 1990s, and was pretty darn good at them. He made the switch to NASCAR in 2007, racing in Red Bull’s first attempt at a NASCAR operation, and did okay. He was what you would call a “Road Course Ringer”. His best performances were at road courses. He raced for Penske for a while, and he never won, he did okay, and then he went to JTG-Daugherty Racing, where he finally won his first Cup race at Watkins Glen in 2014, a road course. From there, he retired, un-retired to race for Kaulig as a “part-time” driver in the Xfinity Series, and he did really well, contended for a few championships, and is now returning to full-time Cup Series competition. Look for A.J. Allmendinger to win road-course races in 2025.
#17 – Chris Buescher
Team: RFK Racing
Hometown: Prosper, T.X.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Chris Buescher has had an interesting career. He started out as an underdog racer, with his first win coming at Pocono in 2016 due to a fog-shortened race. He drove for Front Row Motorsports for most of his early career, moved to JTG-Daugherty Racing, and then went to RFK in a driver-swap with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for 2020 and beyond. Since arriving at RFK, Buescher has performed higher than anyone could’ve expected. He’s won five races for RFK in his five years with the team, with his most recent win coming at Watkins Glen, and his best season so far was in 2023, with three wins on the year. Look for Chris Buscher to make headlines in 2025.
#19 – Chase Briscoe
Team: Joe Gibbs Racing
Hometown: Mitchell, I.N.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Following in the tracks of fellow Hoosier Tony Stewart, Chase Briscoe is a talented driver who’s certainly earned his place in the Cup Series. He came close to winning the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship, but fell short to Austin Cindric. He was a long time racer for Stewart-Haas Racing, until their closure in 2024. He will take over the #19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry from Martin Truex Jr., and Chase has big shoes to fill. Can Chase Briscoe perform to the standards of Joe Gibbs Racing? Look out for Chase Briscoe in Victory Lane in 2025.
#20 – Christopher Bell
Team: Joe Gibbs Racing
Hometown: Norman, O.K.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Christopher Bell has been the result of Toyota’s investment in young drivers. Bell has been a development driver for Toyota since 2015, and it’s paid off. He has numerous wins in all three major NASCAR series. Driving for former Washington Redskins (now Commanders) coach Joe Gibbs is no small task. In only his second race at JGR, Christopher dominated the twists and turns of the famed Daytona Road Course. His latest win came at New Hampshire in 2024. Christopher Bell is a perennial championship contender, and expect no less from him in 2025.
#21 – Josh Berry
Team: Wood Brothers Racing
Hometown: Hendersonville, T.N.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: 34-year old Cup Series newcomer Josh Berry is no stranger to success. The 2020 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Champion is a short-track superhero, with many of his prior wins in lower series coming at shorter tracks. Berry has yet to claim victory in the Cup Series, however he’s had great finishes in the past. He finished runner-up to Kyle Larson in 2023 at Richmond, while filling in for then-injured Chase Elliott. Making the move from Stewart-Haas Racing to Wood Brothers Racing is an almost even move, so expect to see Berry contending for wins in 2025.
#22 – Joey Logano (2018, 2022, 2024 Champion)
Team: Team Penske
Hometown: Middletown, C.T.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Joey Logano is a dividing NASCAR Driver. You either love him or hate him. Logano is hard to describe. He’s a three-time Cup Series champion, and the most recent. His driving style is his own. At superspeedways, he’ll make questionable moves to keep the lead, and sometimes it works, other times, over 20 cars end up wrecked. He’s an agent of chaos, and he’ll do anything to win. Look for Joey Logano to ruffle some feathers, rattle some cages, and win some races in 2025.
#23 – Bubba Wallace
Team: 23XI Racing
Hometown: Mobile, A.L.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Bubba Wallace is a pioneer. He’s the only current African-American Cup Series driver, and the second to ever win a race, with Wendell Scott winning in Jacksonville in 1973. He only has two wins to his name, with the last coming at Kansas in 2022. He’s not a threat to win, but I think he can win this season. Look for Bubba Wallace to contend for a win in 2025.
#24 – William Byron
Team: Hendrick Motorsports
Hometown: Charlotte, N.C.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: William Byron’s racing career started on… a computer? He raced online on the famous iRacing.com simulator. He amassed 100 wins, and his father looked for opportunities for William to race real cars. When he was signed to a lower series, he dominated. He quickly moved up the ranks until reaching the Cup Series in 2018, racing the famed #24 Hendrick car, made famous by “Rainbow Warrior” Jeff Gordon. It took Byron two years to win, with his first win coming at Daytona in 2020. His success continues into 2025, no doubt. He’s the defending Daytona 500 winner as well. Look for William Byron to make a deep playoff run in 2025.
#34 – Todd Gilliland
Team: Front Row Motorsports
Hometown: Sherrills Ford, N.C.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Son of former driver David Gilliland, Todd Gilliland is no stranger to winning. He’s the youngest ARCA winner, at the age of 15 years and two days old. You have to be 15 to race in ARCA. While he hasn’t claimed victory in the Cup Series yet, his maiden victory is surely soon to come, and the taste of victory will be even sweeter in the flagship 34 FRM car. Look for Todd Gilliland to win in 2025.
#35 – Riley Herbst (R)
Team: 23XI Racing
Hometown: Las Vegas, N.V.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie Riley Herbst is an interesting case. He never won a championship in any NASCAR Series, and yet here he is in a contending Cup ride. The reasoning behind this is his talent. He knows how to win. He’s won three NASCAR Xfinity Series races, with his first coming at Las Vegas in 2023, and his latest coming at the last race, Phoenix in 2024. With 23XI Racing, Riley is sure to contend for his first Cup Series win in 2025.
#38 – Zane Smith
Team: Front Row Motorsports
Hometown: Huntington Beach, C.A.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Zane Smith knows how to win. He’s the 2022 NASCAR Truck Series Champion. He’s never won a Cup race, but he’s been close. I think with Front Row, he can certainly win. Maybe not this year, but definitely within the next few years. Front Row Motorsports is a team on the rise, and its drivers are going to follow that rise. Look for Zane Smith to be an undercover star in 2025.
#41 – Cole Custer
Team: Haas Factory Team
Hometown: Ladera Ranch, C.A.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Cole Custer is a natural winner. No matter what kind of car he’s in, he’ll win sooner or later. He’s the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion, and has raced for Haas almost all of his professional career. He’s won numerous Truck and Xfinity series races, and won one Cup Series race, at Kentucky in 2020. With a second chance in the Cup Series racing for the newly-founded Haas Factory Team, Cole knows he must perform, otherwise he’ll be all out of chances. Look for Cole Custer to contend for victories in 2025.
#42 – John Hunter Nemechek
Team: Legacy Motor Club
Hometown: Mooresville, N.C.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Son of former NASCAR veteran Joe Nemechek, John Hunter Nemechek comes from a family where racing is in their DNA. His uncle and namesake, John Nemechek, was killed in a crash a few weeks prior to John Hunter’s birth in 1997. Nemechek has yet to follow in his father’s footsteps and win a Cup race, but he has the talent, it’s just a matter of time until John Hunter Nemechek is in victory lane. Look for solid results throughout the season in 2025.
#43 – Erik Jones
Team: Legacy Motor Club
Hometown: Byron, M.I.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Nicknamed “That Jones Boy” by the late-legendary NASCAR commentator and personality Ken Squier, Erik Jones is an underrated driver. While his cup performances aren’t to the level of the big names, like Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, etc, Erik still knows how to get it done. He’s won a few races, with his most recent win coming at Darlington in 2022. Erik is still only 28 years old, so he has a long way to go until retirement, and I expect him to perform well until then. Look for solid results out of Erik Jones in 2025.
#45 – Tyler Reddick
Team: 23XI Racing
Hometown: Corning, C.A.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Tyler Reddick was made to win. From the start, he was in Victory Lane. When he was racing in the Xfinity Series, he won back-to-back championships, in 2018 and 2019, racing for JR Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing respectively. In the Cup Series, he’s been close to a championship, but has yet to get it done. He can certainly win a championship, and I expect him to contend for a championship in 2025.
#47 – Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Team: Hyak Motorsports
Hometown: Olive Branch, M.S.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has had an interesting career. His career in the lower series was spectacular, winning back-to-back Xfinity Series championships in 2011 and 2012. His Cup Series career hasn’t been stellar, as he only has four wins over 14 seasons. His most recent win was at Talladega in 2024. He’s not really a threat to win anywhere but super-speedways, as that’s where all four of his wins have come, at Daytona and Talladega. Expect the same from Stenhouse, good results at super-speedways in 2025.
#48 – Alex Bowman
Team: Hendrick Motorsports
Hometown: Tucson, A.Z.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Alex Bowman has had a dynamic career. He started as a back-marker field filler for BK Racing, and never finished good. In 2016, he subbed for the legendary Dale Earnhardt Jr. while Earnhardt Jr. was injured, taking over the iconic #88 Chevrolet. He did well, and nearly won at his home track of Phoenix Raceway, but came up short. He impressed the brass at Hendrick, and got a full-time ride in 2018, following Dale’s retirement the year prior. By the standards of Hendrick, his performance hasn’t been stellar. It’s just been okay. He needs to improve to keep his ride. Look for Alex Bowman to be on the hot-seat past 2025.
#51 – Cody Ware
Team: Rick Ware Racing
Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Son of team owner Rick Ware, Cody Ware isn’t exactly a driver who wins. He never really runs up front, and stays in the back. His best finish was fourth at Daytona last season. I don’t expect stellar performance out of Cody in 2025. Expect that to be what happens in 2025 for Cody Ware.
#54 – Ty Gibbs
Team: Joe Gibbs Racing
Hometown: Charlotte, N.C.
Manufacturer: Toyota
Bio: Son of team owner Joe Gibbs, Ty Gibbs is a prospect who has risen through the ranks and had stellar performance. He started in ARCA, and couldn’t help but win there. He went to the Xfinity Series, and won on debut at the famed Daytona Road Course in 2021. He won the Xfinity Championship in 2022, and moved up to the Cup Series in 2023, where he’s remained since. Gibbs has yet to capture his maiden Cup win, but he’s been close many times, and I think he can get it done in 2025.
#60 – Ryan Preece
Team: RFK Racing
Hometown: Berlin, C.T.
Manufacturer: Ford
Bio: Ryan Preece is a short-track ace. For the majority of his career, his success has been at short tracks across America. With RFK Racing, super-speedways will become his new playground. With owner-driver Brad Keselowski, and teammate Chris Buescher, Preece is sure to have great mentors to get him his maiden win in the Cup Series. Look for Ryan Preece to be sneaky quick in 2025.
#71 – Michael McDowell
Team: Spire Motorsports
Hometown: Glendale, A.Z.
Manufacturer: Chevy
Bio: Michael McDowell’s career has waited for a long time. His first win came in the 2021 Daytona 500 when he was 36-years old. After his win in 2021, his performance started to take off. Since then, he has another win, which came at the Indianapolis Road Course in 2023. He is still a threat to win at road courses and super-speedways to this day, and I expect him to win at one of those tracks this year. Look for Michael McDowell to win in 2025.
#77 – Carson Hocevar
Team: Spire Motorsports
Hometown: Portage, M.I.
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year’s career has moved fast. He started out in the Truck Series, and went straight to the Cup Series. In his Sophomore season he hopes to keep up the consistency he had in his rookie campaign. He’s yet to win, and it’d certainly be an accomplishment with the young Spire Motorsports team, but I think he can do it, but the stars would have to align. Look for good finishes from Carson Hocevar in 2025.
#88 – Shane van Gisbergen (R)
Team: Trackhouse Racing
Hometown: Auckland, New Zealand
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Shane van Gisbergen is a Kiwi who knows how to fly. With his win on debut on the streets of Chicago in 2023, his NASCAR career was propelled to the top. He left Australian Supercars to come race NASCAR, and it was a good decision. He had 4 wins in his first season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and as I mentioned earlier, won on his Cup Series debut. If you’re racing on a road course with SVG, you are almost guaranteed to lose. Look for SVG to win road courses in 2025.
#99 – Daniel Suàrez
Team: Trackhouse Racing
Hometown: Monterrey, Mexico
Manufacturer: Chevrolet
Bio: Daniel Suàrez knows how to race. From Monterrey, Mexico, Daniel raced in the NASCAR Mexico Series, before moving to the US and racing in the Truck Series. He moved up to the Xfinity Series, and won the 2016 Xfinity Championship. He moved to the Cup Series the following year, and didn’t win until 2022. He doesn’t win much, but when he does, it’s a party. Look for Daniel Suàrez to win in 2025.

My prediction for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series champion is Tyler Reddick. He’s been showing consistent speed over the last few years, and I think it’s his time.
This season will be crazy, and I’m glad you’re along for the ride.
