Can’t Stop Craving Crumbl Cookies
September 23, 2022
I’ve been sleeping on Crumbl Cookies for way too long. I’ve seen super positive food reviews about them on TikTok and heard how fantastic they are, but I didn’t listen because I figured it was just some cookie not worth the hype.
Boy, was I wrong, because when I tried them for the first time, I absolutely loved them!
Crumbl Cookies was established in 2018 by two “crazy” cousins, Jason McGowan (CEO) and Sawyer Hemsley (COO), who had one big dream. Their dream took some time and they experienced some downfalls, but the negatives is what helped lead them to success by creating “the world’s best chocolate chip cookie” in their terminology, using their own creative batch.
McGowan and Sawyer took their masterpiece to Logan, Utah in 2017 where they first opened shop. They started off slow, serving their so-called best cookie fresh for takeout and delivery. Soon after, they began picking up the pace by offering options such as curbside pickup, catering, and nationwide shipping. Their main goal was to make their cookies in front of the customers. Watching their cookies being made drew attention and make a significant name for Crumbl Cookies.
This idea took off as they expanded with even more ideas, flavors, and locations. They now offer ice cream, beverages, and more.
Their weekly rotating menu consists of what started it all, their award winning milk chocolate chip cookie. Brand new flavors receive the spotlight for a week then are switched out for another new set of flavors. The iconic four flavor weekly rotation was officially established in December 2018.
The brand transitioned to using their now unique famous pink box or “the world’s best box of cookies”. This packaging is made to fit the large cookies perfectly aligned next to each other. The famous pink box comes in a 4-pack for $10.48, a 6-pack for $15.78, and a 12-pack for $26.48. It may seem expensive, but in my opinion, the cookies are worth it!
Crumbl Cookies has spread across the nation to over 300 bakeries in 36 states nationwide and is named the fastest growing cookie company in the nation. A new location opened a few months ago in Ocean Township, New Jersey!
Once this location opened, a lot of people I know were raving about it, with some people saying the cookies were too sweet and not worth the money or the drive.
I wanted to try them for myself.
During the week of September 12 to September 17, Crumbl Cookies came out with a Minions theme for their cookies. I thought they looked amazing and had the opportunity to try them. The pink box had the iconic milk chocolate chip, yellow sugar, mooncake, and dirt cake featuring Otto. The other two flavors for that week were banana cream pie and Minion confetti, but we didn’t get those ones.
The cookies looked even better in person! Although the yellow sugar did not fit into the box as it should have, it didn’t ruin the experience.
I dug in, using the four divider cookie cutter that came with the box which cut the cookies evenly into four, perfect for sharing. I started off with a cookie to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, mooncake. A stamped golden cookie stuffed with a creamy almond filling. This was a solid cookie, very sugary with a little hint of almond flavor from the icing. The layer of icing was not much which was a little disappointing and it did not live up to the creaminess. But overall, still a solid cookie which I rate an 8.6/10.
Next up was the yellow sugar, a delicious sugar cookie topped with a bright yellow swoop of creamy vanilla frosting. The cookie itself was packed with that sugary sweetness although the thick layer of icing on top was not as great as I expected it to be. I was prepared for a lemon flavor, but unfortunately, that did not happen. Moving past these minor downsides, I still loved the amount of icing on this quality cookie. Yellow sugar deserves a good 8.9/10, surprisingly better than the mooncake!
Now what I’m most excited for, the classic milk chocolate chip. Thick, soft, and packed with milk chocolate chips. Just by having this thing in my hand, it automatically fits the description. The chocolate chips were gigantic and I could tell that it was a gooey cookie. One massive bite reminded me of Christmas! Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite deserts in the world and this made me so happy. It was amazing and took my tastebuds to a winter wonderland! This heavenly cookie earns a 9.5/10. It would have been better warmed up or dipped in milk so I’ll have to try that next time! As much as I loved and adored it, it is not the world’s best chocolate chip cookie.
And now for the main event, the dirt cake featuring Otto. I figured it was a good way to cap things off, and it was out of this world! There was a chocolate extravaganza going on in my mouth. The Otto was a little piece of edible chocolate and there was sprinkled cookie crumbs all over the incredible icing. The icing was creamy, super rich and addicting. The cookie was extraordinary and paired well with its icing and toppings. This took the cake as the best cookie in the box, not a doubt in my mind about that. I didn’t think it would be better than the chocolate chip but it absolutely blew me away so I had to rate it higher. 9.7/10 is the final score.
Having Crumbl Cookies for the first time was amazing. I now follow them on social media, and every Monday, I look immediately at their new set of weekly flavors. Crumbl Cookies has hooked my heart. I’m so glad I got to finally try it out and learn what it’s all about for myself!
