As winter comes to an end, spring brings new energy and exciting events to Manchester Township High School (MTHS). The warmer weather means students and staff have a lot to look forward to, both inside and outside the classroom.
One of the most anticipated parts of the season is spring break, which gives students a full week off from school. Many students use this time to relax, travel, or spend time with family and friends before returning refreshed for the final stretch of the school year.
Spring is also the start of spring sports at MTHS. Teams such as baseball, softball, track and field, boys golf, boys tennis, girls flag football, and girls lacrosse begin practices and games during this time. Athletes work hard throughout the season, and many students come out to support their classmates at games and meets.
Another important event during the spring is freshman orientation. Incoming freshmen visit the high school to learn more about what MTHS has to offer. During this event, tables are set up in the gym where students can explore different sports teams, clubs, and activities. Current students and teachers help answer questions and encourage freshmen to get involved when they start high school.
Spring at MTHS also includes an important milestone for juniors: taking the NJGPA. The New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment is a state test that students must take as part of the requirements for graduating high school. Juniors spend three days completing the test in math and English. During this time, the school runs on a modified schedule to give students enough time to focus on the exam. While testing week can feel serious, it is an important step for juniors as they move closer to their senior year and graduation.
Spring also brings other exciting school activities. Many classes begin preparing for end-of-year projects and exams, while school organizations often hold fundraisers and special events. Warmer weather also allows teachers to incorporate more outdoor activities when possible.
Overall, spring is a busy and exciting time at Manchester Township High School. With sports starting, new students visiting, and a well-earned spring break, the season helps bring the school community together as the year begins to wind down.
