16 years ago was the last time the tee box saw Lady Hawks tee off. 16 years later, the Lady Hawks are back.
Led by Coaches Huchko and Serrano, the Lady Hawks are returning to the green.
Their opening matchup against Central Regional ended in a loss, but hopes are high for the Lady Hawks, and as many of the golfers are beginners, they’re looking to simply learn the game and improve.
Coach Huchko had the following to say on behalf of the team:
“We are incredibly excited to bring back the Lady Hawks Girls Golf Team at MTHS. It’s especially meaningful knowing that our school has a history of success, including the 2009 “A” South Championship, and we’re proud to begin building that legacy again.
This season, our main goal is growth focusing on both skill and confidence. We have a mix of beginners and experienced players, and we are focused on creating a supportive environment where every athlete can learn, improve, and enjoy the game. We’re emphasizing fundamentals, sportsmanship, and teamwork as the foundation of our program.
Looking ahead, we hope to continue growing the team, increasing participation, and becoming competitive within our conference. More importantly, we want to establish a strong, lasting program that future Lady Hawks can be proud to be part of.”
This inagural season of sorts will be a learning curve for the Lady Hawks, however, Hawks always soar.
The Girls Golf team features five golfers, three freshman and two juniors, so next season, the sky is the limit for the team.
According to past yearbooks, the last time the Lady Hawks hit the golf course was in 2010, the year after their A South championship.
This season will be a test for the Lady Hawks, and all of us at MTHS are excited to see how the season goes! Good luck girls!
