A Fresh Start For Lady Hawks Wrestling
October 7, 2022
Returning Lady Hawk Wrestlers Alex Spear (Jr), Samantha Ruggerio (Sr), Makenna O’Neill (So), and Gianna Carino (Jr) are stoked for this upcoming wrestling season.
On May 11, 2022, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) announced girls high school wrestling as its own separate sport after it was approved by a vote of 262-0.
With that being said, the Lady Hawks are feeling strong and look forward to a new beginning. Samantha Ruggerio organized a girls interest meeting after school on Thursday, October 6. There, the Lady Hawks presented what wrestling is all about to the 5-10 students who are interested. Along with them came Assistant Wrestling Coach Nick Vinciguerra and Strength and Conditioning Coach John Holzer (Commander) to explain how the season will be run and what is expected.
The girls introduced themselves, showing pride in their point of view for girls wrestling. They encouraged the group that they will have a blast and love the sport. The girls also have just received shorts and shirts to compete in instead of singlets. Things are looking great for the new program!
Huge thank you to the returning Lady Hawks who took the time out of their day to grab the attention of a potential Girls Wrestling Team for Manchester Township High School!
