Taking a Crack at the Pete and Elda’s Pizza Challenge

Pete and Elda’s Bar combines Carmen’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant into over 50 years of successful business located in Jersey Shore’s Neptune City. Pete and Elda sold the bar to Carmen’s son, George Andretta well over 30 years ago. Pete and Elda’s is well known for their famous thin crust pizza the home of the whole pie eater challenge.

The establishment has been rated number one as one of the best Pizzerias along the Jersey Shore on numerous accounts. Back in 2015, The Asbury Park Press published an article and video which readers named Pete and Elda’s their favorite slice. It has also been named one of The Jersey Shore’s 25 most essential restaurants by Eater New York.

There is a lot of hype over this pizza as you can see. As much as I wanted to taste it and see what it is all about, it was my goal to join the whole pie eaters club and earn one of their limited time extra large T-Shirts. Right now, since it’s October, the shirt is Halloween themed. The shirt looked awesome when Pete and Elda’s released it on their website and instagram, so I decided to take a business trip up to Neptune City.

The restaurant and bar were packed, which was a great sign. When a restaurant is full of hungry people, you know you’re in for something good. And I saved my appetite for what I was in for. The whole pie eaters challenge is to finish an entire XXL Pie in one sitting by yourself. I’ve gotten a lot of mixed reviews on this challenge. Some say it’s a piece of cake, some say it’s a real struggle, but I know my standards and I was confident that I can take it down.

When they brought out the pizza, it was huge. It looked way bigger than I had expected. I started to get a bit nervous but when I took my first bite, I couldn’t put it down. The pizza is as thin as a cracker and the crust isn’t even crust. It honestly tastes like a cracker. The cheese was magnificent with a generous amount of grease on top, but the sauce was very unique and tasty. This pizza was hot, delicious, and a 9.4/10. As much as I enjoyed it, I had to get on the horse and begin to devour it.

At the halfway point I was feeling pretty good, but shortly after with three slices left, the struggle began. I was feeling full because I was drinking a lot of water and taking massive bites. It was at this moment where I buckled down and pushed through the fullness, completing the challenge, rightfully earning the shirt, and joining the whole pie eaters club!

I had a great experience at Pete and Elda’s and it was well worth the trip. The service was nice and able to manage all of their customers. I would love to go back to try their Italian food because all of their menu options looked fantastic and I saw a few interesting dishes being served to customers. I will definitely be back for a round two at the whole pie eaters club, maybe I’ll really challenge myself and get toppings!
