In the late 1990’s the New York Yankees had a team of young talented players. Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Derek Jeter were known as “The Core Four”, each of them were key to the Yankees four world championships in five years, more commonly known as the “Yankee Dynasty”. The young “Core Four” quickly became leaders in the Yankee Clubhouse.

Derek Jeter was the starting shortstop for the New York Yankees from 1996 to 2014, spending his entire career with the Yankees. Through his 20 year career, he amassed 3,465 hits becoming the Yankees all time hits leader. Jeter became the 15th Captain of the Yankees in 2003. Jeter even had the honor of being inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 2020, receiving 97 percent of the vote. The Yankees also retired his number to Monument Park in 2017.

Mariano Rivera, also known as Mo, served as the closer for the Yankees for his entire 19 year career. Rivera is considered the greatest Relief pitcher to ever play the game and was the first player to be unanimously selected to the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 2019. Rivera remains Major League Baseball’s all time saves leader with 652 career saves. The Yankees Retired his number, 42, in 2013 and was the last MLB player to ever wear the number 42.

Andy Pettitte was a starting pitcher for the New York Yankees from 1995 to 2003, then switched to the Houston Astros for 2 seasons, but returned to the Yankees in 2007. Pettitte retired after the 2013 season, but during his 18 year career he was a 3 time All Star and won five world championships. The Yankees retired his number to Monument park in 2015.

Jorge Posada spent 17 seasons with the Yankees serving as the Yankee catcher from 1995 to 2011. Throughout his career Posada was a 5x All-Star, 4x World Series Champion, and a 5x Silver Slugger Award recipient. Posada was drafted as a second baseman but was quickly made a catcher due to his lack of ability in the infield. Posada spent his first 4 years on the Yankee roster as the backup catcher to Joe Girardi, then in 2000 Posada became the full time catcher for the Yankees. The New York Yankees number 20 was retired in honor of Jorge Posada in the Yankees monument park,

From Rookies to true Yankee legends, these men will be remembered for many generations to come.
