Kevin’s Kids is a holiday drive for kids in need of presents for Christmas in Manchester Township District. This started 42 years ago when a teacher named Kevin Burger had a student who said Santa never visited him. Burger believed every student should deserves to celebrate Christmas and so, he provided Manchester students with gifts. Kevin’s Kids committee and volunteers shop specifically for each of the child’s individual wishlists to ensure they have a wonderful Christmas.
Manchester Schools come together to be involved in Kevin’s Kids and raise money for this holiday drive. Some schools host gift auctions, jean days, and other events to raise money for the drive. Christmas trees can also be found in some school lobbies with tags of items staff or parents can purchase. Donation boxes are found all around the area and there are businesses, senior villages, and more to help gather Christmas gifts for Manchester students.. There is also “Dine to Donate” fundraisers at local restaurants that help contribute to this.
Kevin’s Kids is a great holiday drive and it values the unfortunate who can’t get presents for Christmas. The volunteers and committee help make their Christmas great with wrapping each of the gifts with care. These kids will get necessities to get them through difficult times. With everyone’s contributions to Kevin’s Kids, these kids will have smiles on their faces.
A committee member, Amy.Vasquez, has been contributing to Kevin’s Kids since 2005 when she was hired into the district. She is currently a 5th grade teacher at Manchester Township Elementary School. She helps to fundraise, collect donations, shop for items on wishlists, wrap gifts, and directs fundraiser apparel.
“ I have also spearheaded the Kevin’s Kids apparel fundraiser the past couple of years. I am proud to say that my daughter, Alexa designed the shirts this year! A portion of each shirt sold goes back to Kevin’s Kids in order to help more families and students in our school district during the holiday season,” Vasquez said.
Vasquez’s favorite part of Kevin’s Kids is wrapping day, which is the final day where volunteers wrap all gifts, preparing them for family pick-up.
