Back in 2014, Marvel took a huge risk in making a big ticket movie surrounding lesser known Marvel comic property. The comics and characters were “marked by its unabashed weirdness”, as they were certified as a group of weird so-called heroes, but James Gunn used that to his advantage creating one of the most popular movie franchises in the world as the Guardians are one of the most perfect teams to represent that found family aspect, a trope many viewers can get behind. When this band of misfits first got together in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), space adventurer Peter Quill stole an orb that was coveted by the all-powerful, “bird turd blossom” (as Peter likes to call him), villain, Ronan. In order to evade Ronan, Peter is forced to make a truce with four untrusting outsiders; Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer. When Peter discovers the orb’s true powers and threat, he must rally together the group of misfits in order to save the galaxy. By stopping Ronan and the greater forces of evil, the group becomes known as The Guardians of the Galaxy. Since then they have fought a living planet, a crazed titan, and even got dusted for five years. But through everything, one thing is for certain… WE ARE GROOT!!
