Aaron Rodgers targets playoff return after suffering torn Achilles

After suffering an achilles injury on September 11, 2023, several reports said that Aaron Rodgers’ season was done. However, Aaron Rodgers himself stated ”I’m going to push this thing as much as it will allow me to, and there’s markers I’ve got to see, where I’m at after a week, two weeks, a month, two months, and we’ll see what the conversation is from there.” Rodgers has never stated whether he would return this season, but he also did not mention whether he would ever return to the field. Although Rodgers did provide personal evidence that he will be rehabbing the achilles with every intention to play again.

On the Pat McAfee show, Rodgers stated “Give me the doubts, give me the timetables, give me all the things that you think can, should, or would happen because all I need is that one little extra percent of inspiration.” From hearing this, it is fair to infer that Rodgers will return to the football field, it is just a matter of when. Focusing on the fact that Rodgers will be turning 40 in December doesn’t seem to help his case, but he is viewing that as an incentive and is searching for the best needs of rehabilitation. “Definitely some odds stacked against me based on age, but I like it,” Rodgers also stated on the Pat McAfee show. Rodgers also mentioned that he knew right away that his achilles tendon was torn, and that a lot of negative thoughts started to formulate in his mind. But his surgery went great, and Rodgers is as motivated as ever to make a return.

Aaron Rodgers had received surgery from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who had also performed surgery on other famous athletes such as Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, and Zack Greinke. Sources say that ElAttrache placed an internal brace on Rodgers’ fully torn achilles. The internal brace or “speed bridge” placed on Rodger’s achilles does not guarantee a return, but it definitely helps his cause to a great extent. The speed bridge strengthens the repair in Rodgers’ achilles and helps to protect it against stretching out, lessening the chances of a reinjury in the same achilles and accelerating his rehab. Although unlikely due to the severity of Rodgers’ injury, sources say that the procedure that Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed on Rodgers is a fairly new procedure which has seen athletes recover in as soon as four months. Until then, Rodgers will have to sit back and watch as the Jets will roll with the third-year quarterback Zach Wilson, who is looking to put his struggles behind him and achieve a playoff berth.
