While many hidden talents often remain undiscovered, many students and staff at MTHS have shared their unique abilities. Among them is School Counselor, Ms. Kelly who has mastered playing the tenor saxophone. Her passion for the instrument not only reflects her artistry, but also her adventurousness.“We were invited in 6th grade to pick an instrument and I went with the Tenor Saxophone and never looked back!” She shared.

Being a great example of a good memory, English teacher Ms. Yates reveals her talent for reciting all 50 states in less than 25 seconds. She credits this talent to her strong memory and ability to speak more quickly than most. Yates explained, “I once tried singing the song all in one breath and found it would help my hiccups. It was fun, so I kept practicing until I could say all fifty states in 1-2 breaths.” She says. She expresses that her mastery of the song “Fifty Nifty United States” helped overcome a stubborn case of hiccups and create an uncommon talent. 

In addition to the talent shared by the staff, MTHS sophomore, Sy’Rai Lewis has confidently been able to engage in the Cool Math game, Geometry Dash, with her eyes closed. This was discovered from an extreme amount of boredom and realization of needing new ways to be challenged by the game. Lewis had found that she was better than most people who play with their eyes open. Making just a small change created a bigger talent. 

The remarkable hidden talents shared by both the students and staff show that when discovered could have a big impact. The impressive range of skills showcased at MTHS, from challenging video games to reciting states in under a minute, express that the possibilities remain limitless.
