As the haunting Halloween season is upon us, here is a guide to the best spooky streams on Disney+ and upcoming specials as we await October!!

Upcoming Releases

Hocus Pocus 2 (streaming on September 30th)- After thirty years of the initial release of the cult classic Halloween film, Hocus Pocus, Bette Midler (Winifred), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah), and Kathy Najimy (Mary) are back as the Sanderson Sisters in the highly anticipated sequel. The Sanderson Sisters are brought back by three young girls to modern day Salem in Hocus Pocus 2. 

Marvel Studios’ Werewolf By Night (streaming on October 7th)- Marvel Studios is releasing an all new hour Halloween special with Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell AKA the Werewolf by Night. Werewolf By Night follows a group of monster hunters all while hunting and going up against a powerful, dangerous, unknown monster!! 

Under Wraps 2 (streaming on September 30th)- “Three friends, Amy, Gilbert and Marshall, prepare for a wedding. However, they spring into action when they learn their mummy pal, Harold, and his beloved Rose face the wrath of an evil mummy with a 1,000-year-old grudge.”

 

Halloween Movies 

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)- Classic animated feature short about the Sleepy Hollow tales of the Headless Horseman terrorizing Ichabod Crane. 

Mr. Boogedy (1986)- The Davis Family moves to a new town that is haunted by ghosts. 

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)- Stop motion animation film by Halloween expert, Tim Burton, based on Burton’s children’s Christmas book about the skeleton Pumpkin King, Jack, who is bored of his holiday and becomes obsessed with Christmas. It is arguably a Christmas film but qualifies as both. 

Hocus Pocus (1993)- Directed by High School Musical legend Kenny Ortega following the story of three teenagers, Max, Allison, and Dani accidentally bringing back the three Sanderson Sisters on Halloween night. 

The Haunted Mansion (2003)- Based on the Disney Park attraction real estate agent Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) is lured to the Haunted Mansion with his family after he has been asked to sell it and soon discovers that its residents have other plans for them. 

Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie (2012)- A stop motion animated remake of the original story of Victor Frankenstein bringing back his dog companion, Sparky. 

Coco (2017)- Celebrates Dia De Los Muertos and Hispanic heritage with Miquel trying to pursue his dreams in music but ends up in the Land of the Dead meeting his past ancestors and a lonesome skeleton, Hector. 

Muppets Haunted Mansion (2021)- Based on the Disney Park attraction Gonzo challenges his fellow muppets to spend an entire night in a suspected haunted house. With surprise cameos from such actors as Darren Criss, Will Arnett, Ed Ashner, and many more!! 

Lego Star Wars: Terrifying Tales Halloween Special (2021)- This animated lego special follows Poe Dameron and BB-8 as they must face their fears in order to return home to their friends. 

 

Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOMs) 

Halloweentown (1998)- Marnie and her two younger siblings follow their grandmother (Debbie Reynolds) to the magical town of Halloweentown, filled with mythical and paranormal creatures. 

Don’t Look Under the Bed (1999)- A group of teenagers who don’t believe in the supernatural discovers a boogeyman under their bed. 

Phantom of the Megaplex (2000)- Modernized version of The Phantom of the Opera, when staff members start going missing at a Megaplex on the night of a big showing. 

Mom’s Got a Date With a Vampire (2000)- A group of kids suspects their mother’s date is suspiciously a bloodsucking vampire. 

Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Return (2001)- Sequel to Halloweentown (1998) Marnie and her grandmother have to work together to stop the evil warlock Kalabar and his son. 

Twitches (2005)- Twin sisters (Tia and Tamera Mowry) separated at birth discover each other and their special powers to save their home. 

Halloweentown High (2005)- Through an exchange program Marnie and her Grandmother bring a group of teenage monsters from Halloweentown to our world so they can experience public high school. 

Return to Halloweentown (2006)- Recast Marnie attends university for the supernatural. 

Twitches Too (2007)- Twin witches (Tia and Tamara Mowry) use their powers to fight the forces of darkness again.

Girl vs. Monster (2012)- The daughter of monster hunters finds her calling while monsters take over her town and school. 

 

Individual Halloween Special Episodes 

The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror I-XXX– 30 years worth of The Simpsons Halloween specials. Disney has compiled every Treehouse of Horror episode in a special collection on Disney+. 

Gravity Falls (S1, E12) “Summerween”- The town of Gravity Falls celebrates Halloween twice a year, Dipper insults the Halloween Trickster made of rejected candy threatening Dipper, Mabel, and their friends if they don’t collect enough Halloween candy before the last jack-o-melon lantern goes out. 

WandaVision (S1, E6) “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!”- Wanda and Vision celebrate their first Halloween in WestView with Billy, Tommy, and Pietro but everything is not what it seems. **Fun Fact: Wanda, Vision, and Pietro’s Halloween costumes are all comic accurate**

What If…? (S1, E5) “What If…? Zombies?”- The recently released Marvel show, What If…? ponders the question of multiverse with alternate universes. “What If…? Zombies?” shows the story of an infectious quantum virus infecting everyday citizens including the Avengers turning them into zombies starting a zombie apocalypse. Unexpected MCU characters team-up to cure this with some surprises on the way.  

The Muppet Show (S1, E9) “Vincent Price”- The Muppet Show’s usual weekly guest performs skits with the iconic Muppets. For the Halloween special, the King of Horror, Vincent Price guest hosts doing spooky and scary skits full of monsters and ghouls.

Wizards of Waverly Place (S3, E2) “Halloween”- The Russo Family holds a haunted house at their sub shop but is deemed not scary enough, leading Alex to bring in actual monsters from the wizard world to ours. 

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (S1, E19) “Ghost of 613”- Zach is scaring everyone at the hotel and so his friends at the Tipton take him to a supposedly haunted suite and stay the night to see if the rumor is true.

That’s So Raven (S2, E2) “Don’t Have a Cow”- Raven and Chelsea cast a spell to have the coolest Halloween costumes but backfires and they turn into actual cows. 

Lizzie McGuire (S1, E24) “Night of the Day of the Dead”- Lizzie’s school is throwing a Halloween bash but Lizzie and her friends believe that their fellow classmates are getting turned into zombies!!

Phineas and Ferb (S4, E44) “Night of the Living Pharmacists”- The hour long special shows the mad pharmacist, Doofenshmirtz create an infectious disease turning citizens of Danville into zombie versions of himself. Phineas and Ferb along with their friends try to survive this nightmarish apocalypse.
