Why did you become a Teacher/Administrator/Counselor?
I became a teacher because I had a love of mathematics and wanted to share that love with students. Before I was a teacher I would tutor students and I LOVED when students had the “Aha!” moment. I decided that I wanted to help all students have that moment. Throughout my teaching career I discovered that I could help students on another level, which led me to get my Masters in School Counseling. I wanted to do more to guide students along their chosen path and to help them personally, academically and emotionally. I am finding that as a School Counselor, I am a real-life problem solver, which helps nurture my love of math and problem solving in the real world.
Something about you that would surprise students?
I think my students would be surprised to know that I play the tenor saxophone and that I am a huge Harry Potter and Lego nerd.
Biggest Motivation for becoming your current position at MTHS?
My biggest motivation to work at MTHS was the feeling I got when I interviewed here. I felt connected and I got such a good feeling that this was the place for me. And I was right!
Favorite Traditions/Superstitions you have at MTHS?
I LOVE that our seniors have a “Park Day” every year and I love Mr. Manchester. Shh – I also love that thing that teachers aren’t allowed to talk about in front of seniors in December.
Someone you admire the Hawks Nest?
I admire Ms. Findlow. She has taught me so much since I moved over to the Guidance Department. She has offered advice, tips and an amazing amount of knowledge about the counseling department. And she does it with an open heart and a smile!
Dream Vacation?
My dream vacation is to fly first class to Australia and spend time exploring the countryside.
If you had one wish, they’d wish for:
My one wish is for my children, Logan and Lucas, to be happy and healthy.
Best MTHS Memory?
My best MTHS memories come from end of year parties where I get to connect with my colleagues who I don’t get to see regularly. We are always so busy with daily activities and tasks and it’s always so nice to see them outside of school and connect on a social level.
Advice for students?
My advice for students is to stay organized, get involved and don’t miss school. When you are organized, work is easier! Getting involved is important to develop new skills and meet new people. And when you are missing school, you are missing out!
