This article is part of the entertainment column “The Daily Bugle” “Don’t make me angry… You wouldn’t like me angry…” Jennifer Walters is let go from her previous law firm but is now hired by a more prestigious one. Only catch, she must practice as She-Hulk. GLK/H hired She-Hulk not Jennifer. Will this affect Jen’s work while she deals with a difficult client who is a bit of an abomination??

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Two: “Superhuman Law”

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Two: “Superhuman Law”

originally aired on August 25th, 2022.

Spoilers Ahead!

Though She-Hulk has already appeared in other animated series this is the first time She-Hulk has ever been live-action with her own solo project on Disney+. Since the Incredible Hulk is a more popular character than She-Hulk, her comic history isn’t as known. So before watching She-Hulk: Attorney At Law fans should know some basic background information on a lesser known character. The character of She-Hulk first appeared in 1980 in her own solo comic book series, She-Hulk. Jennifer Walters, our main character of the series, later transforms into the title character. Jen is just a normal lawyer, well not that normal. She is an attorney at law in Los Angeles hence the title of the Disney+ series. She first becomes She-Hulk after obtaining a dangerous injury, Jennifer gets a blood transfusion with donated blood from her cousin, Bruce Banner. Due to acquiring some of his blood, she becomes a milder version of the Hulk… AKA She-Hulk.

(this episode runs for thirty-one minutes)

Hidden Details and Easter Eggs:

  • Both of the news stations, KPVO and KZYO, that are covering the breaking news of She-Hulk and Titania’s courtroom brawl, were actually first seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp. These stations reported when Ant-Man turned into Giant-Man. Once again, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law has great attention to detail especially since Jen and Scott both reside in California (which is where She-Hulk takes place).
  • After work, Nikki and Jen go to a bar, where Jen reveals she prefers being a lawyer than an Avenger since she’s not even sure if any of the Avengers even get paid. “But you could be an Avenger.” “Do the Avengers offer healthcare? Maternity leave, a pension. Are they even paid?” This was recently brought up in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. “Is there some kind of fund for heroes? Or did Stark pay you when he was around? My condolences by the way.“ “No, it doesn’t really work like that.”
  • Throughout the last couple Disney+ series, Marvel has been hiding scannable QR codes in each episode that brings viewers to a free comic book. She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is not much different from Moon Knight. In “Superhuman Law” on Jen´s computer while she´s looking for a new job, viewers can spot a QR code on the website that will take you to a Marvel comic.
  • BuzzFeed pointed out, “You can see that the top of the page has a bunch of different sections that relate to Marvel, which include Find Ant-Man, Norse Mythology, and Avengers.” “Norse Mythology” is, of course, a Thor and Asgard hidden detail. Another hilarious easter egg is the “Find Ant-Man“ section on the website. This is a small detail (pun intended) but should not go unseen unlike the shrinking Avenger. Especially since Scott Lang lives in San Francisco and She-Hulk takes place in California as well.
  • On the same website there is an advertisement for the Iron Man Three´s sneakers, a tribute for Tony Stark. We love you, 3000!!
  • Thee biggest cameo out of this entire episode is also a related article on the same website. The article reads, “Man fights with metal claws in bar brawl”. This is of course a nod to the X-Men, Logan AKA Wolverine. This subtle easter egg is just the beginning for the X-Men since Ms. Marvel has officially brought mutants into the MCU and She-Hulk just teased one of the most popular X-Men. On September 27th Ryan Reynolds just announced that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as the fan-favorite, Wolverine, in the upcoming Deadpool 3 film.
  • Underneath the “Man fights with metal claws in bar brawl” article is the first mention of The Eternals and the events that occurred in the film. The article is titled “Why there is a giant statue of a man sticking out of the ocean”. At the end of Eternals a giant Celestial is seen coming out of the water and this is the only mention of it since.
  • Jen’s phone background is hilariously Steve Roger/Captain America’s butt which is of course a nod to Avengers: Endgame. “That is America’s ass.”
  • “Bruce is actually the one who saved billions of people with the snap of his fingers.” This is a nod to Avengers: Endgame because if fans can’t recall, Bruce is in fact the one who snapped to bring everyone back after they were dusted for five years. His heroic actions are always forgotten because it is shadowed by Tony’s sacrifice at the end of the film.
  • “This isn’t even the first time we’ve had to deal with a Hulk in the family. And you didn’t destroy a city.” Jennifer’s father brings up the Hulk’s extreme outburst in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
  • The She-Hulk creator, Jessica Gao, said that while writing and creating the character of Jennifer Walters their main inspirations for her and the show were Ally McBeal and Elaine from Seinfeld. They also took inspiration from Legally Blonde.
  • After Jennifer is let go from her district attorney’s office she is offered a job at GLK/H as the new head of the superhuman division. But the only catch, she must practice as She-Hulk. GLK/H hired She-Hulk not Jennifer. GLK/H stands for Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, and Holliway. “We just started a Superhuman Law Division, and I want you, well, the She-Hulk, to be the face of it.”
  • The GLK/H design was the original title design for She-Hulk. Marvel leaked the title and design of She/Hulk in all white text with a city background behind. Now it is a more artsy font having “She” in purple and “HULK” in green, matching She-Hulk’s iconic super suit. The original title was just She/Hulk, now it has been changed to She-Hulk: Attorney At Law
  • In the She-Hulk comics the law firm, GLK/H “frequently cited Marvel comics, as legal precedent”. In the GLK/H building there is an office full of comic books which is a great reference to the comics.
  • Emil Blonsky is being held at a Department of Damage Control prison, of course, DODC is known among the fans since they played a large role in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ms. Marvel
  • While inside the prison Jen asks the guard, “Is he gonna serve me up with some fava beans and then a nice Chian…” This is a nod to The Silence of the Lambs scene between Clarice and Hannibal. “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.”
  • Emil Blonsky says, “I thought I was gonna be, you know… Captain bloody America or something, you know?” This is a nod to Abomination’s origin story after receiving a dose of gamma radiation which they tried to duplicate the super serum that transformed Bruce Banner into the Incredible Hulk. This was first seen in the 2008 Incredible Hulk movie that fans have seemingly forgotten is cannon is the MCU. It also doesn’t help that Ms. Marvel star, Iman Vallani, claims that she doesn’t count the film starring Ed Norton cannon.
  • Bruce tells Jen, “Blonsky wrote me a really nice letter a while back, and a really heartfelt haiku. So we put everything behind us. That fight was so many years ago. I’m a completely different person now. Literally.” This is a subtle nod to The Incredible Hulk movie which has Edward Norton as the title character but was later recast by Mark Ruffalo.
  • At the end of the episode Jen finds out that Emil escaped prison, turned into Abomination, to fight at The Golden Daggers. This is the scene we saw back in Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings where Shang-Chi and Katy see Abomination and Wong go at it.
