The MTHS Chapter of the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists is seeking donations of the following items for Ocean’s Harbor House, located in Toms River:

• Monetary donations towards Target gift cards
• Paper Towels
• Toilet Paper
• Disinfecting Wipes
• Paper Plates
• Dish Soap
• Laundry Detergent HE Pods
• New Small Travel Umbrellas
• New fold-up travel rain jackets/ponchos
• New School Supplies
• New backpacks
• New bath towels and/or washcloths

“Ocean’s Harbor House is a local charity that gives back to teens in our area who are struggling with trauma and homelessness,” said junior Joe Horowitz, Quill and Scroll member and donation drive coordinator. “One thing can change one person’s life, so please consider donating or reaching out about the collection drive.”

About Ocean’s Harbor House 

Ocean’s Harbor House addresses the needs of runaway and homeless youth while providing services, shelter, and support to young people facing trauma resulting from living in damaging home environments. Youth come to their programs having endured many types of unsafe experiences, causing them to adopt unhealthy behavior patterns, poor coping skills and ill-formed plans for the future. Helping them heal and move forward requires a comprehensive response from many different perspectives. With a multilayered menu of programs providing shelter, support and services, Ocean’s Harbor House can meet them wherever they are on their journey. Their goal is to help youth rewrite their stories while building stronger foundations and bright futures.

Founded in June 1985 by a group of concerned citizens and community leaders, Ocean’s Harbor House was created to address the needs of homeless, runaway and abandoned youth in crisis.  In August 1988, the agency opened the emergency youth shelter, providing a safe haven that helped our region’s children leave the streets and abusive and dangerous homes. In 2004, the organization opened their Supervised Transitional Living Home. Over time, the organization has evolved into a multiservice agency that focuses not only on crisis intervention but also on prevention and empowerment. Ocean’s Harbor House has helped tens of thousands of children and their families, and has utilized the skills and dedication of hundreds of staff and devoted community leaders, as well as countless volunteers. Enabling vulnerable youth to unlock their full potential by learning skills that empower them to build successful lives, relations, and futures has been the cornerstone of Ocean’s Harbor House for over 35 years.
