She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Five: “Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans” Breakdown and Guide

This article is part of the entertainment column “The Daily Bugle” “Don’t make me angry… You wouldn’t like me angry…” Jennifer Walters, AKA an attorney at law, is being sued for trademark infringement, by, you’d never guess, Titania. Jen quickly learns that Titania trademarked the name “She-Hulk” and now that she owns Jen’s superhero alias does that mean she can finally get away from that lifestyle and just be Jen again? What’s more irritating is that Titania is trying to sell a new line of beauty products under the She-Hulk name. Will Jen get her name back as she discovers that she’s still Jen where She-Hulk is just something that happened to her and is part of her now??

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Five: “Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans”

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode Five: “Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans”

originally aired on September 15th, 2022.

Spoilers Ahead!

Though She-Hulk has already appeared in other animated series this is the first time She-Hulk has ever been live-action with her own solo project on Disney+. Since the Incredible Hulk is a more popular character than She-Hulk, her comic history isn’t as known. So before watching She-Hulk: Attorney At Law fans should know some basic background information on a lesser known character. The character of She-Hulk first appeared in 1980 in her own solo comic book series, She-Hulk. Jennifer Walters, our main character of the series, later transforms into the title character. Jen is just a normal lawyer, well not that normal. She is an attorney at law in Los Angeles hence the title of the Disney+ series. She first becomes She-Hulk after obtaining a dangerous injury, Jennifer gets a blood transfusion with donated blood from her cousin, Bruce Banner. Due to acquiring some of his blood, she becomes a milder version of the Hulk… AKA She-Hulk.

(this episode runs for thirty-one minutes)

Hidden Details/Easter Eggs:

  • Fans are speculating that this entire episode, episode five, is a nod to the actual trademark story surrounding She-Hulk, Marvel, and Stan Lee. Originally when The Incredible Hulk show was airing Stan Lee along with John Buscema created the character She-Hulk and wrote Savage She-Hulk issue one in order to stop the company behind the 70s Hulk series to create a spinoff series with a female character while the Hulk was at its peak. Titania and Jen perfectly show this throughout the episode. “What’s the issue?” “You’re using my name to sell your trashy products, and you’re suing me?!”
  • Nikki tells Jen that she follows Titania on Twitter. The funny thing is Marvel fans can actually follow a verified account for Titania. Her twitter bio explains the character perfectly, “Influencer. Icon. Global lifestyle brand. (kiss emoji)” If it only included She-Hulk’s enemy… The marketing for She-Hulk especially surrounding Titania is impeccable. Marvel set up posters in L.A. of She-Hulk and had Titania actress, Jameela Jamil, deface it and promote Titania.
  • When Nikki and Pug see the knockoff Avengers merchandise, or should I say Avongers. Each of the Avengers (Avongers) are slightly different like Iron Man’s armor colors, red and gold, are reversed, Captain America’s suit, usually designed with stars, are replaced with eagles (there is even an eagle on his shield), the Hulk’s colors are also reversed, his skin is usually green and his shorts are purple, but the Avonger’s Hulk is actually purple with an added mustache, Thor is now a redhead where his luscious blonde locks once were and wields a shovel, Hawkeye’s arrowhead is just an eagle claw, and Black Widow has a scopiran on her chest plate.
  • The knockoff Captain America shield’s color is also reversed… well changed. There is a blue rings around the blue star where Cap’s most popular shield has a red ring around the white star.
  • On the Avongers mugs the members of the team are named Iron, Holk, Thur, and Hawkguy. BuzzFeed pointed out in the row of mugs there is an extra row for Iron Man (Iron), Captain America, and Thor (Thur) but not Hulk (Holk), Black Widow, and Hawkeye (Hawkguy) because this subtlety shows how the original six Avengers are viewed. Compared to Thor, Cap, and Iron Man the other three are quite underrated, especially Hawkeye, who is the only member out of the original Avengers not to get a full length feature film. But luckily, he got a six part Disney+ series which was one of the best ones.
  • Can we all appreciate that Nikki and Pug absolutely pulled off the knockoff Avengers merchandise. They went all out with the matching Avongers hat and shirt where Pug also went full Steve Rogers wielding Mjolnir with Cap’s shield.
  • Back in episode four of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Jen’s (in She-Hulk form) blind date says, “I mean, your battle with Titania in court, it was incredible.” She-Hulk hilariously says, “Uh, people love using that word around me.” This is an incredible nod to the 2008 Incredible Hulk film starring Ed Norton and even just the Hulk comic line. This is also brought up in one of Jen’s date’s testimony in court, he says, “She’s not really my type. But She-Hulk. She-Hulk’s incredible. She’s amazing.”
  • The biggest and probably the best easter egg in this episode and possibly the biggest in the entire series is the helmet Luke made for a client is DareDevil’s iconic mask but for his new and improved red and gold suit specifically for She-Hulk. Luke says, “Hello, this shouldn’t be left out in the open. Tinsley, does client confidentiality mean nothing to you?!”  Of course, Luke’s client is Matt Murdock since Charlie Cox once again will be reprising his role as “The Man Without Fear” AKA DareDevil. He made his MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter’s really good lawyer but in She-Hulk Matt once again will be putting on the horns and releasing the devil as he fights side-by-side with She-Hulk and go head-to-head with Jennifer Walters in court!!
Small hidden detail of DareDevil’s new and improved gold horned helmet. Charlie Cox will be reprising his role as the really good lawyer, Matt Murdock.
  • Matt Murdock’s DareDevil costume will be entirely different from his all red Netflix suit. Matt’s suit is hanging up in Luke’s office as well next to where Luke places his helmet. The chest plate is burgundy with yellow sleeves with his matching gold helmet. In the comics, after Matt’s father is killed in a fight, Matt takes his father’s old boxing robe, turning it into the first DareDevil suit that is red and yellow.
Still from She-Hulk: Attorney At Law of Charlie Cox suited up as “The Man Without Fear”, DareDevil.
  • During the credits when it says, “Based on the Marvel Comics”, She-Hulk can be seen holding an Avongers mug with a lipstick stain in an evidence bag during a trial. This still has been in all the credits since the first episode but fans finally understand the Avongers reference.
  • In the credits fans can see Pug’s shoe collection, the one he told Nikki about in the episode. This still is full of easter eggs as each shoe is designed to look like a different Marvel comic hero. Some of the shoes spotted are for Iron Man, Captain America, Deadpool, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Moon Knight, Captain Marvel, Cyclops, Green Goblin, Vision, The Thing, Wolverine, Hawkeye, Gambit, Hulk, Nova, Doctor Strange, Ms. Marvel, Electro, Sandman, The Lizard, Archangel, Ghost Rider, Thor, and She-Hulk.

All episodes of She-Hulk are streaming exclusively only Disney+!!
