Not that there was much doubt, but Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has won the NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. Daniels accepted the award Thursday night at the annual NFL Honors ceremony in New Orleans.
Daniels secured 49 of the 50 first-place votes, finishing ahead of Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers and Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. The former LSU teammates Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers rounded out the top five.
This was the second award Daniels had received that day, as he was also named the Pepsi Zero Sugar Offensive Rookie of the Year. Daniels was named Rookie of the Week 11 times throughout the 2024 season, breaking Ben Roethlisberger’s previous record of nine.
Daniels led the Commanders to their most prominent season since 1991. Washington finished with a regular season record of 12-5, won two road playoff games, and took the Commanders all the way to the NFC Championship game. Daniels concluded the regular season with 3,568 passing yards along with 25 passing touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He even tacked on 891 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns, showcasing his versatility in year one.
Daniels has single-handedly changed the direction of a franchise that has been in the dumps for the past couple of decades. He took them to their first NFC Championship in 33 years and became just the 6th quarterback to ever start in a conference championship game. Daniels solidified himself as the face of the Commanders’ team and set a high standard for what the team can accomplish in the coming years.
