The Manchester Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is kicking off Pride Month with a fundraiser today, June 1 , and tomorrow, June 2, for The Trevor Project, an organization focused on queer youth that offers supplies, assistance, and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth.

They are selling an assortment of Pride goodies at all lunches on both days. Most items were handmade by members of the GSA and include rainbow roses, scrunchies, heart keychains, earrings, and pronoun pins.

Mrs. Malebranche, one of the advisers of GSA, explained that flags that symbolize sexuality, gender, and personal identity are on sale, as well as a topical take on Play-Doh.

Club adviser Ms. Lambusta said the main goal of GSA is to support LGBTQ+ community as well as educating others. The alliance holds meetings every other Tuesday, where members talk and discuss information revolving around the community, express their concerns with uprising issues, and ways to provide overall awareness. Lambusta went on to say that Manchester is such an exciting place to see so much support. The rainbows and flags hanging around the school provide a safe haven for students.

Seniors Melanie Grom and Noel Steger both expressed their gratitude to the students and staff, especially Mrs. Malebranche, who is the heart of the program. “Staff and teachers have been incredibly kind and supportive.” It makes a huge difference. GSA aims for change,”—–” commented Steger, who is GSA President.

Steger added that the GSA’s initial purpose is to make a more inclusive environment in the school to help raise money for the club since they don’t get much support.

The GSA invites all students and staff to stop by the table set up outside of lunches to support the community. The GSA is always open to new people to help improve the school environment. See Mrs. Malebrance in Room 215 or Ms. Lambusta in Room 100 for more information.
