Top 10 Cities In Pro Sports History

Top+10+Cities+In+Pro+Sports+History

If you look at the history of any sports league, you are bound to see some dynasties. Whether it’s the 73-9, 2015-16 Warriors, the 16-0, 2007-08 Patriots or more recently the 65-12-5, 2022-23 Bruins, it happens everywhere. Sometimes cities are lucky enough to have multiple in their history, so here’s the top ten teams for pro sports historically.

10: Dallas, Texas

Teams: Mavericks, Cowboys, Stars

Championships: 7

Starting off with a bang, and proof that everything is bigger in Texas, including these numbers. For the Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki got them one singular ring. Then for the Cowgir- excuse me, Cowboys, they’ve got five, winning with the likes of Michael Irvin, Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett. As for the Stars, They have one championship similar to the Mavericks, with them getting it done in 1999. Although most of their teams don’t look too good now, remember there was a time where Dallas was cooking no Dalvin.

9: Houston, Texas

Teams: Rockets, Texans, Astros

Championships: 4

Houston has been a great sports city during all of its time hosting teams, and that’s evident thanks to championships. Although the Texans have never won a championship, the Rockets and Astros pick up the slack with two a piece. For the Rockets, they had a 1994 and 1995 repeat, with the Hakeem Olajuwon led team in 1994, and the duo of Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler in 1995. As for the Astros, while controversial, there’s no denying that they have won two championships.

8: Portland, Oregon

Teams: Trailblazers

Championships: 1

While they only have one team, the one team that resides within Portland is the one and only Trailblazers. Although unforgettable, they are sometimes regrettable. But when the Trailblazers go, they go like a souped up Lamborghini with brand new tires. For their one and only ring, they would beat the 76ers in six games (Oh the heartbreak I just felt.) Bill Walton would lead them to this, and after his time, the Trailblazers would have some players that knew how to put on a show that would get seats filled, such as Clyde Drexler, Lamarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard.

7: New York

Teams: Knicks, Nets, Giants, Jets, Bills, Rangers, Islanders, Mets, Yankees

Championships: 46

Of course New York is gonna be on here, with an absolutely mind blowing 46 championships. But why are they so low? Well, as mentioned in my last article, when they’re low, they’re very low. There simply is no in between for New York teams. Still, you cannot argue with 46 titles, with the Yankees bringing in the most championships out of any New York team, having 27 World Series wins, more than any other MLB team. Perhaps those lights inspired them, but nonetheless let’s hear it for New York.

6: Indianapolis, Indiana

Teams: Pacers, Colts

Championships: 6

For a relatively less relevant state, Indiana can truly bring it when it comes to sports. The Pacers and Colts both have three championships each, with the Colts having a 1958 and 1959 repeat, as well as a 1968 Super Bowl under their belt, and the Pacers having a 1970 championship followed by a 1972 and 1973 repeat. Indianapolis also has had its fair share of stars, from Paul George, Reggie Miller and Roy Hibbert to Robert Mathis, Marshall Faulk and Andrew Luck. sliding in at number 6, it’s Indianapolis.

5: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Teams: Timberwolves, Vikings, Wild, Twins

Championships: 4

While the Timberwolves and Wild haven’t quite gotten to a championship yet, the Vikings have one and the Twins have three. It’s kind of shocking that the Wild have never gotten a Stanley Cup, as hockey is looked at in Minnesota like football in Texas or basketball in New York, but nonetheless let’s look at what the Vikings and Twins have. The Vikings got one singular Super Bowl win in 1969, while the twins got it done and went all the way in 1924, 1987 and 1991.

4: Los Angeles, California

Teams: Lakers, Clippers, Rams, Chargers, Kings, Angels, Dodgers

Championships: 39

Before I go further, allow me to clarify that the reason why I’m only covering the city of Los Angeles for this but for New York I included the Bills, is because the Bills are the only New York team not playing in NYC, while there’s many in California. Coming in at number 4, Los Angeles almost rivals New York with 39 Championships, the majority brought in by the Lakers. Los Angeles is almost always a city to look out for, simply because due to the sheer amount of teams, they almost always have someone doing extremely well, and this sentiment is accurate historically too, causing LA to be number 4.

3: Detroit, Michigan

Teams: Pistons, Lions, Red Wings, Tigers

Championships: 22

Good enough to get bronze is Detroit, with 22 championships, and the honor of being the first multi team city on the list to have a championship for every sport. There’s no wondering that the Pistons have a few, with their history having eras like the Bad Boy Pistons, and the early 2000s Ben Wallace led team. Then you’ve got the Lions, With players like Doak Walker, Alex Karras and Billy Sims suiting up for them throughout their history. The Red Wings are the Red Wings, enough said, and the Tigers have managed a few world series wins throughout their history, surprisingly.

2: Toronto, Canada

Teams: Raptors, Maple Leafs, Blue Jays

Championships: 16

Taking silver is Toronto, also becoming the only foreign city here. Starting off with the Raptors, they only have one championship, getting themselves some rings in 2019 after getting lucky in the semifinals (Ignore that, I’m just a bitter 76ers fan.) They then went on to beat the Warriors in the finals. Then for the Maple Leafs, though nothing has happened for them as of late, in the first half of the 20th century they were cooking like some Canadian Gordon Ramsays. Finally, the Blue Jays have four for themselves.

1: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Teams: Bucks, Brewers

Championships: 3

Taking gold is Milwaukee. Starting off with some honesty, the Brewers are not at all the reason why Milwaukee is the sports goat, they’re pretty much just cheerleaders for the Bucks. Moving on to the main attraction though, the Milwaukee Bucks have three championships, and won with the likes of Oscar Robertson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Bob Dandridge and Lew Alcindor. Don’t recognize that last one? Well, in 1971 he converted to Islam, and decided to change his name, so you may recognize… Kareem. Abdul. Jabbar. Also known as one of the greatest centers of all time, the best according to some. Coming in at number one, it’s Milwaukee.
